Linux: Configuring Your Networking Software
To do this:
- Open up a xterm and type su and
type the root password on the prompt that follows
- then type linuxconf &
- A graphical program will appear, click on the networking button
and then on the Basic host information button
- In the window that appears under the Host name tab enter a value for
Host name + domain this will be your username+PC (e.g. smithjpc)
- Under the Adapter 1 tab
- Check that Enabled check box is selected
- The config Mode should be set to DHCP
- Leave the other settings as they are - these should have
been set up before when you setup the network card.
- Click on Accept
- Click on Quit and Quit again
- Click on Activate the Changes
