How To Reduce Your Setup Time

Performing these simple steps ahead of time can help make your setup significantly faster:
  1. The most important thing you can do that will save the most time, is to install the latest version of your operating system, including all service packs, critical security updates, etc. If you are using Windows, install the latest service pack and all critical updates from Microsoft using Microsoft Update. If you are using a Mac, use Apple Update to do the same.

  2. Perform as many of the steps in the setup process as you can before bringing your computer in.

  3. Make sure your computer is free of viruses and malware. If you are using Windows, install and scan your computer with the Malicious Software Removal Tool.

  4. Make sure your computer has a network card (and/or wireless network card) with the latest firmware and drivers. Visit your manufacturer's website to get the latest firmware and drivers for your device. This is especially true if you are attempting to connect to the Thomas wireless network.

  5. Disable any music or file sharing applications.

  6. Have your power cables ready and with you when you begin the setup of your device on the network. Your laptop should be plugged in to an AC power outlet.
