Windows: Scan Your Computer and Install Microsoft Endpoint Protection
Scan your Computer for Malicious Software:
- This step scans your computer for the most common viruses and worms, removing any that it finds. If you do not currently have an up to date antivirus application installed, this must be run.
- Click here: http://update.thomas.edu/dist/malware-removal/Windows-KB890830-x64-V5.1127.exe (Aug. 15, 2024) to run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal utility on your computer. (32 bit users, down from Microsoft instead)
- Run through the scan process: Click run and next until the scan (quick scan) starts and is finished.
Optional: Remove AntiVirus Software:
- Since Windows has a built-in Defender, no other anti-virus applications are required. Remove all Anti-Virus software applications, by going to the Control Panel, Programs and Features window.
- Find and remove any AntiVirus package you find, including those from the following vendors: Symantec, Norton, McAfee, F-Prot, Avast, AVG, Kaspersky, Trend Micro, etc.
- If you are asked to restart to complete the uninstall process, do so now.
